Niigata Senbei Okoku (Roast Your Own)

Niigata is Japan’s foremost senbei producer. To make these rice crackers, you pound the rice, knead the powder, and grill while applying say sauce, salt, and other flavorings. At Senbei Okoku you can learn about the process, watch it in action, and then do it yourself. Gifts and dining are also available.

By train: From Niigata station, take Hakushin line (in the direction of Toyosaka, Murakami, and Shibata) to Niizaki Station, then walk 20 minutes.
By car: 20 min from Niigata Station; 15 min from Niigata Airport exit off the Nihonkai-Tohoku Expressway; 15 min from Niigata Airport.
